Switch off the power, clean off the anode, and repeat as necessary. You may need to dump the solution, blast out the interior with a hosepipe, and repeat a few times. There may be some stubborn rust residue but on the whole this process works very well. I use it to get rust out of petrol tanks on bikes and cars.
